We are at one of the most critical junctures in the 250-year history of this country. We’re winning at nothing. We’re losing many pillars of our democracy.
The list of grievances is too long (and has been summarized elsewhere) and, yet, includes Iran; Epstein; Canada, the ballroom; the arch; the reflecting pool; the weaponization of the Justice Department; the degrading of our military and its capabilities; ICE; detention centers; NATO; Ukraine; vaccines; public health; women’s reproductive freedom; climate change; the attack on science; lies, lies, lies; election denial, interference, and control; the SAVE Act; destruction of national parks and forests, tariffs; the Kennedy Center; the EPA; Pete Hegseth; inflation; the trade deficit; the loss of standing and credibility internationally; undermining and ignoring the rule of law; the demonization of those who voice disagreement; the absence of research, expertise, or strategy; the sycophants; the pardons; the personal graft — and much, much more.
This November 3rd, we have the first major opportunity in two years to put a dam in MAGA’s river. Remarkably, as we wind down the summer of 2026, that election is only 68 days away. In some states, early and mail-in voting begins by mid-September— only a few weeks from now.
To stop the damage to our democracy, and to begin reversing some of the harm, we must win state and federal races everywhere we can.

In the musical Hamilton, George Washington counsels a young Alexander Hamilton that no one controls how their story will ultimately be told — and closes with a warning that has become one the show’s signature lines: that history is watching. It’s a fitting note for this moment. What we do — or fail to do — between now and November 3rd is the story future generations will tell about this juncture in American democracy. Washington said:
Let me tell you what I wish I’d known
When I was young and dreamed of glory:
You have no control
Who lives, who dies, who tells your story.
I know that we can win
I know that greatness lies in you
But remember from here on in
History has its eyes on you.
